: With a vision to attain and achieve the vision 2020 launched by the government of India to make India self sufficient in food, a three year Integrated Nutrient Management programme was officially launched in Nagaland, first among the Northeast states at Nihokhu village under Dimapur district on Tuesday.
The scheme Integrated Nutrient Management has been launched in Nagaland by Indian Institute of Soil Studies (IISS), Bhopal under ICAR and department of Agriculture, government of Nagaland.
Officials from Government represented by Principal Scientist, Dr. A. K Biswas, and Scientist Dr. Lalkar Brijlal both from Indian Institute of Soil Studies (IISS) Bhopal are visiting the state to implement and to study the conditions of the soil in the state.
Deputy Director Department of Agriculture, Deepak Chetri, who is also the nodal officer also attend the launching of the scheme in the state.
Principal Scientist, Dr. A. K Biswas briefing on the scheme launched by the IISS, Bhopal and Agriculture department, Nagaland, said that the purpose is to study and document the crop production in the state.
He said to achieve the vision 2020, certain measures needs to be introduced, for this the Integrated Nutrient Management was adopted to study and to protect and rejuvenate the production capacity of the soil through Integrated Nutrient Management in the hill area as well in the plain area and to maintain the soil future for sustainable food production through various ways through scientific systems such as vermi decomposition, FYN and various other scientific methods.
He said to make the scheme successful, collaboration amongst farmers and government agencies is an important aspect.
Dr. A. K Biswas further added that the aim of the scheme is to see whether the 2 tons of paddy per hectare being produced in Nagaland against the 5.5 tons of paddy per hectare in other states in India.
Deputy Director, department of Agriculture Deepak Chetri who is also the in charge of the scheme in Nagaland said that three year demonstration programme introduced basically aimed at developing valid recommendation of food production in Nagaland and to focus on maintaining the soil fertility for sustainable food production in the state.
He said various methods both sceitific and organic would be implemnented in the plain areas as well in the hilly terrain.
Deepak Chetri said that initially area such as Niuland, Dimapur, Ralan, Jalukie, Mokalamba, Mokokchung, Tuli Tizit, Bhagty and Kohima has been identified for trail basis.
Altogether 22 District Agiculture Officers and Sub Divisional Officer attended the Integrated Nutrient Management programme.
