State chief minister’s secretariat Tuesday informed that Vice-President of India H. Hamid Ansari would grace the upcoming World Bamboo Day celebrations to be held in Kisama, Kohima during September 16 to 18.
In connection with this, the state chief minister Neiphiu Rio Tuesday held a special review meeting and visited various facilities that would be used during the event including the ongoing construction works for the World Bamboo Day, a press communiqué released by chief minister’s secretariat stated.
It stated that World Bamboo Organisation (WBO) president Kamesh Salam, and Director of CBTC briefed the meeting on various aspects of the three- day meet and activities that would take place in Nagaland.
The state government is expecting participation from several countries and other states of India, it said, adding governors and chief ministers of all North Eastern states have also been invited to participate in the celebrations. The World Bamboo Congress is planning to honour selected entrepreneurs and craftsmen who have excelled in the use of bamboo and its applications on World Bamboo Day.
Some of the programme highlights during the three-day meet include North East Level Crafts Bazaar, fashion extravaganza, bamboo exhibition, cultural shows, food festival and a Bamboo Investors Meet and music shows.
WBO president informed that investors, entrepreneurs and leaders of bamboo applications from different parts of the world and the country would participate in the investors meet.
Kamesh Salam also informed that live demonstrations on bamboo technologies would be carried out using modern machineries.
Meanwhile, a special bamboo event is also being planned in Dimapur coinciding with the celebrations. Plantation drives will also be conducted to commemorate the World Bamboo Day while the Nagaland Olympic Association will conduct a half marathon to commemorate the day.
The WBO president informed that the day would be celebrated in different continents, however, the celebrations in Nagaland would be most elaborate. It may be recalled that state chief minister Neiphiu Rio had addressed the inaugural function of the World Bamboo Congress in Bangkok, Thailand as the guest of honour in the year 2009.
