HIV awareness prog in Dmu

Naga Women Hoho Dimapur (NWHD) in collaboration with Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), has been creating awareness on HIV disease by organizing “HIV awareness campaign” in different locations within Dimapur.
Speaking on the second day of the campaign at The Garden, Supermarket, NWHD president, Hukheli Wotsa highlighted the basic facts of HIV. She spoke on its causes, preventive measures, misconceptions, discrimination and facilities available with the government.
Wotsa urged all the sections of society to give concerted efforts to prevent the spread of disease and to reduce stigma and discrimination.
She also gave recommendations for future implementation towards HIV issues concerning awareness programme on HIV, reducing stigma, blood test, care and support for People Living with HIV and AIDS to be initiated through partnership/forum comprised of district administration, hospitals, churches and apex NGOs of Dimapur district.
In a short speech, deputy commissioner Dimapur, Kesonyü Yhome informed that Manipur and Nagaland has the highest rate of HIV, while in Nagaland 95% HIV infected persons are through sexual transmission.
Short speeches were also delivered by Naga Council Dimapur and Super market tenants association and vote of thanks was delivered by DCCI president Hokivi Chishi.
The officials from government departments, civil societies, churches, students’ community and NGOs attended the programme. The last day of campaign would be held at Neingullie Memorial High School, Khermahal, while the first day of campaign was held at New Market.
