In a tragic incident just few days before Christmas, a Jalukie-bound bus (NL01B341) turned turtle while trying to avoid hitting a motorcycle on Tuesday at Jharnapani (near Vivolie service station) at around 2 pm. The accident left 19 injured, six of them seriously.
According to an eyewitness account, the bus which was reportedly over speeding veered off the road while trying to avoid hitting a motorcycle which was coming from the opposite direction. In the process, the bus turned turtle leaving many passengers including children injured. The bus driver fled from the scene before the police arrived. CRPF and Assam Rifles personnel initiated in clearing the road and shifting the injured to nearby hospitals. The seriously injured were later shifted to Dimapur Civil Hospital.
Meanwhile, Dimapur Traffic police lauded the efforts of 20 AR personnel lead by Nk Sub Pritam Singh Nk Sub S C Das and personnel of 173 Battalion CRPF led by SI Natu Rajput for helping during the rescue operation and bringing along logistic support at the spot.
