On plight of tea growers in Nagaland

Members of Nagaland Small Tea Growers Association (NSTGA) and chairmen of all 11 districts Kisan and Khet Mazdoor, Congress have expressed concern over the incomplete inspection of plantations in all districts by development officers of the board with inefficient technical assessment team, NE branch and non-release of backlog subsidies under 9th and 10th plan period.
NSTGA office bearers and chairmen of Kisan and Khet Mazdoor, Congress at the review meeting on February 15 stated that in spite of UPA government’s various noble initiatives, the department in-charge under Nagaland state government and Tea Board of India had not implemented to materialize the benefits to the deserving farmers.
The members also stated that several memorandums have already been drafted to the state governor, executive director, Tea Board of India and all authorities but the scenario continued to be bleak and genuine grievances of the state tea growers were being taken for granted for years since 2005.
Expressing grievance along the rest or the tea growers in Nagaland, chairman Kisan and Khet Mazdoor, Congress Shami Angh stated appealed to authorities to produce a concrete statement in order to clear off all apprehensions, and release subsides at the earliest, lest the growing frustrations could lead to farmers’ agitation and unwanted consequences.
