Symphony School of Music, a new music training centre was opened here Saturday at Rhütso’s Complex, near The Vineyard School Mohonkhola Kohima.
The school, with an objective to train and hone musical talent in youngsters, was started by two enterprising youth- Mele Pucho and Mebu Sekhose, who are music enthusiasts themselves.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the school as chief guest, Music Task Force Nagaland (MTF) project director Gugs Chishi said young aspiring musicians needed to strike a balance between their familial support and their hard work and dedication. Terming music as a “serious profession”, Chishi said this was where parents’ support becomes imperative.
“Music is one brand where you don’t need an ISI accreditation,” he said, adding that there were no boundaries in the field of music. While lauding the founders of the school, the MTF project director also urged them to stay focused on their goal and expressed hope to see many music prodigies emerging from their undertaking. Chishi also highlighted objectives of the MTF such as identifying raw talent in youngsters and supporting them to reach higher levels. He stated that the opening of the Symphony School of Music has set the school under MTF radar and assured to facilitate the new school in possible ways. He further expressed hope that the school would produce the first proficient orchestra of Nagaland.
The inaugural function was attended by various pioneers of music in the state, first batch students, parents and well wishers including MLA and advisor IT & C Er. Vikho-o Yhoshü, Rattle & Hum Music Society Nagaland chief patron Khriehu Liezietsu, chief engineer (Rted.) Er. Mezakrol, Shalom Biblical Seminary faculty member and Kethoser Kevichüsa among others.
Symphony School of Music would be offering courses for beginners and advanced musicians in piano/keyboard, violin, vocal, drums, cello and flute/recorder. The faculty consists of renowned musicians including Kusazo (violin/cello), Atso (classical guitar), Yanpo (drums), Rhuvi and Mhasi (piano), Noune (vocal) and Temjen Jamir (guitar). Rattle & Hum Music Society Nagaland president Theja Meru and renowned pianist and music teacher Visahu Peseyie are the board members for the new school.
It was informed that examinations of the school would be held under an international examination board.
