DAN govt. an ‘abeyance govt’: NPCC

August 23, 2011 | by admin

Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) Monday leveled fresh criticism on DAN government’s policy and decisions on issues pertaining to the public, citing ultimatums served to the latter by various NGOs recently.
According to a press release issued by NPCC media cell, DAN government has been in “a spell of wrong decisions and indecisions” on different public issues, which indicates that it has no will and courage to take hard political decisions.

It said the game of “buying time” with false promises was over as organizations were threatening the government with their own courses of action upon failure on government’s part fulfilling their demands.
It labeled DAN government as an “abeyance government”, pointing out that the latter had the habit of keeping issues in abeyance to buy time.

While stating that such steps were indicative of collapsed government machinery, Congress also observed that recent developments and events were not unexpected.
NPCC media cell also listed out different organizations and issues that the government was faced up with, stating if the organizations meant what they said, the government would be brought “to its knees”.
Various ultimatums that the government faced include – Tikhir Tribal Council and Tikhir Students’ Union 3-point charter of demands issued August 17 with August 31 as deadline; NSF’s 45 days ultimatum issued August 18 with 5-point charter of demands on teachers’ appointment scam; the day government gave 30 days time to address ANATU demands, the KCCI threatened the government with indefinite closure of shops in protest against police excesses during ANATU agitation August 20; All Nagaland Electricity Field Workers’ Association 30-day ultimatum with 3-point charter of demands issued August 21; ATAN threatening to go on hunger strike etc.
Congress also pointed out that many organizations had been protesting against incidents of killing, rape, kidnapping etc, but DAN government’s failure to nab the culprits showed a “spineless government”.
On the issue of regularization and retention of teachers, NPCC observed that almost all the tribal student organizations have opposed and rejected government’s “pick and choose” policy on the matter, saying government had to finally give in and took a “U-turn decision” to keep the order in abeyance.

Also, lashing out at the government for failing to implement 33% reservation for women in municipalities despite Bill being passed in the Assembly, the NPCC reminded that government’s reluctance has forced Naga women to resort to legal recourse.
On DAN cabinet’s recommendation of Autonomous Council, the Congress said the decision was “politely but firmly rejected” by ENPO. It stated that no attempt was made to negotiate with the ENPO and they might not have been taken into confidence before recommending the Autonomous Council.
Stating such was a total disregard to the sentiments of the people, it added that DAN government’s attempt to give “band-aid” solution for electoral mileage was “in bad taste”.

While alleging that several court cases on corruption charges were pending against the DAN government, NPCC further stated that the above mentioned circumstances pointed that the government was now entangled in its “own web of wrong doings”.
