Assam Rifles has strongly refuted the statement of the MIP NSCN/GPRN (K) that appeared in the local dailies on September 15 regarding AR’s operation at Mon on September 12. AR said the allegations were serious and the report was a propaganda campaign against successful operations of AR in ensuring implementation of the Cease Fire Ground Rules (CFGR).
In a communiqué, PRO IGAR (N) said the AR operations (Sept 12) was launched on receipt of specific intelligence inputs of armed ULFA cadres hiding in a specific house. However, it said the AR did not know that the house belonged to ‘ss’ ‘Lt Col’ Apang Konyak or only ladies were present in the house. AR said it recovered one 9mm pistol with magazine, two radio set ICOM, 300 rounds of ammo of various types, two combat helmet, three combat shoes, four ammunition pouches, four web belts, 27 electronic detonators and 18 pairs of combat uniform from the house. Further the AR claimed that a well camouflaged tunnel behind the bathroom mirror was found with large quantity of war like stores inside.
This, the AR said clearly indicated that the house of Apang Konyak was used as a storehouse/armoury for supply to ULFA and other IIGs which was against CFGR. “AR stands by its commitment as ‘Friends of the Hill People’ to ensure a weapons and extortion free society and a peaceful environment in Nagaland”, the PRO asserted.
