20 Assam Rifles seizes Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), ganja

In an apparent case of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) smuggling, 20 Assam Rifles (AR), Thursday seized 34 cases of rum and 13 cases of canned beer from a goods carrying truck (NL 05 T 8850) at Phiphema.
According to excise officials, the truck carrying IMFL was a private vehicle reportedly hired by FCI Dimapur and was heading towards Imphal.
The IMFL cases were concealed under sacks of wheat and were supposed to be transported to Kohima. The accused in this case have been identified as Prem Rai (driver) and Santosh Kumar.
In other incidents, 20 AR also seized 12 cases of rum and one case of whiskey on February 22 from a Hyundai Accent (NL 03 2176) at Zubza and apprehended two persons identified as Surja and Haponi.
On February 15, 21 cases of whiskey and 14 cases of beer were seized from a truck (NL 03 A 1732) at Phiphema and 31.14 kilograms of contraband ganja at Heningkhngia.
In connection with the liquor haul case, Tsomokum Sangtam and Mehtsuru Yimchunger were apprehended for the ganja related case a woman identified as Shene Pao was taken into police custody.
All the seized items have been forwarded to the office superintendant of excise Dimapur by 20 AR. Excise official added that all male accused have been charged under NLTP Act and the woman has been booked under NDPS Act.
