NSCN (I-M) busts fuel adulteration racket

February 25, 2012 | by admin

NSCN (I-M) Friday said that it has unearthed an automobile oil adulteration syndicate operating in Nagaland and Manipur. This was exposed after NSCN (I-M) “apprehended” a person who ran an agency and supplied automobile fuel to filling stations in Nagaland and Manipur.

In a statement, NSCN (I-M) ‘dy. kilonser’ Y. Zhimomi said that its ministry of health affairs (MHA) on February 12 “apprehended” one Noel of Gorapati and on interrogation he revealed that the “lucrative business” of fuel adulteration was an “open secret” being practiced by almost all the fuel supplying agencies of Nagaland and Manipur.

According to the statement, Noel furnished the names of agencies involved in fuel adulteration. The names of these agencies include “Srikant, Gunapati” who supplied fuel to “NRL, 2½ Mile, Dimapur, ESSAR, 7th Mile, Chumukedima, Sekhose BOC, Kohima”, “Lal Mohan” who supplied fuel to “National Service Centre, 6½ Mile, Dimapur (dealer IOC Ltd.)” Dimapur, “Dinanath and Pandit” who supplied fuel to “Nagame Service Centre Station, 8th Mile” Dimpaur, “Nirmal Jain” who supplied fuel to “Burma Camp Petrol Pump” and “Santu Jain” who supplied fuel to “Gorapati BOC and many more”.

Based on the “confessional” statement of Noel, MHA raided the fuel stations and found “incriminating” materials and “evidences” such as “extra cubicles, tanks and motor pumps” which were used in the process of fuel adulteration, said the statement. It said that the findings suggested the fuel stations were “working in corroboration” with the respective agencies.

The statement added that MHA also found these stations were not following the “standard temperature and density of petrol”. Pointing out that this was just a “tip of the iceberg” which needed “intensive” probing, MHA said consumers should take “stringent” measures to check such kind of “corrupt” practices while these “errant” agencies and fuel stations were “minting crores of rupees”.

The statement went on to say that the consumers have not only been “looted and exploited” but also the adulterated fuel caused “numerous health and environmental hazards”.

NSCN (I-M) kilonser rejects Assam Rifles claim
NSCN (I-M) ‘education kilonser’ Kraibo Chawang termed it as “very unfortunate” the recent operation conducted by joint team of 29 Assam Rifles and police in his residence February 20. Chawang said on February 20 at 2 a.m. the 29 Assam Rifles personnel raided his residence and demanded to inspect the AK-56 which he was entitled as per ID card.

Chawang in a statement, said the AR after being shown the weapon, took it away.
During the raid, he said another NSCN (I-M) cadre “capt.” Kaphung Kui, who was his tenant and also of the “Naga army”, was searched and from whose possession on 9mm pistol was recovered. He also said he produced his bodyguard before the AR officer when asked to do so.

The kilonser said his bodyguard was then asked to sit nearby where the 9 mm pistol was placed after which a photograph was taken in order to “ implicate me that the 9mm pistol also belonged to me.” Chawang said he even told the AR officer that he had nothing to do with the 9 mm since it did not belong to him.

He said he told the AR officer to seize the pistol if needed but however felt that the intention of the AR officer was to implicate him for possession of two arms so as to take away the AK-56 which he was entitled as per his ID card. He said the incident was witnessed by all his tenants and police assigned as a guide to AR.

He termed the AR action as a gross violation of cease fire ground rules when the only weapon he was entitled to, was taken away. He said the AR refused to respect the ID card and raided his residence with most of them “wearing mask and without insignia.” Chawang said the operation officer of 29 AR has “misinformed the concern authorities for the reason best known to him.”
