Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) condemns rape attempt

Eastern Sumi Students’ Union (ESSU) has condemned the June 8 incident where one Shiaduddin, a resident of Karimganj, Assam, attempted to rape a local teenage girl at Zunheboto.

Condemning and taking the incident “seriously”, the students’ union finance secretary, Vihepu L. Yeputhomi, in a press release stated such heinous crime should not be spared and tolerated within the state where everyone was yearning to live in peace.

The release also stated such act was not heard or seen before in the Naga society, but now the “cowardice and inhuman act” was happening frequently for which it urged the competent authority to award befitting punishment to the accused.

The students’ union further appreciated all for their participation in the rally held to protest against bailing out the accused and also appealed to the administration to not let any groups or individual bail the accused.
