The first batch of post graduate students under Nagaland University, Kohima campus, and also the last batch under NEHU (joined 1993 and passed out 1995) organised a get-together programme at Hotel Saramati on June 23.

Parliamentary secretary for IPR, Economics and Statistics, R. Tohanba, who was the then president of Post Graduate Students’ Union Kohima (PGSUK), in his address welcomed the initiative of the get-together and expressed happiness that members of the first batch under NU were meeting each other after a gap of nearly17 years.

He exhorted on the need of former batch mates to keep in touch with each other, share experiences, happiness and problems. Tohanba also recalled the hardships faced by the first batch students under NU during the difficult transition from NEHU to NU.

He also lauded the collective efforts of the student community during that period and said those students who joined later had enjoyed the sacrifices, including boycotting classes and forgoing academic sessions, made by the first batch students to ensure better academic environment for the new university.

Other batch mates including assistant professor, Dept. of Commerce NU, Ratan Kaurinta, assistant professor (Education) Zunheboto College, Dr. Benjong Imchen and superintending geologist, ONGC, Vinguzolie Iralu, also spoke on the occasion.

The dozen members also deliberated on common issues and plans of the future. Earlier, the get together started with invocation by senior lecturer, DIET, Mrs. Savilieü Meru.

The members also decided to convene a second meeting in the month of October and requested all former colleagues (NU first batch) to attend the next meeting.
