Sazo reiterates development commitment to safeguard status, rights of women

Parliamentary Secretary for Social Welfare, Child & Women Development Chotisuh Sazo on July 17 said that Nagaland was the first state to have a separate women development department and that the government was committed to safeguard the rights and status of women.

He said this after unveiling the foundation stone for Women Resource Centre (WRC) laid at Thosuzho Runguzu Nasa Chozuba on July 17 as the chief guest.

Sazo appreciated women development department for taking initiative in bringing the centre under his constituency as it would benefit the womenfolk of the area.

Sazo stated the department was implementing a number of welfare and development programmes for women entrepreneurial initiative, micro enterprises development programme, rehabilitation cum support centre, promotion of women in innovative in the entrepreneurs programme, training cum production centre, women development empowerment, textile weaving and promotion project and transformation livelihood intervention etc.

Under Transformative Livelihood Intervention, he said 1215 SHGs have been covered where 18200 household were benefited under the scheme and that department also constituted Nagaland state commission  for women.

He also said the government has initiated women development and resource centre at Mokokchung and multipurpose building in Kohima to provide skill development programmes for women.

Women development director, Neilavou Keditsu highlighted the purpose of the centre. The programme was attended by officials from the department and all the administrative officers from Phek and Chozuba area. Around 500 womenfolk had gathered at the programme.

The programme was chaired by secretary women development Meilemla IAS. Earlier welcome address was delivered by ADC Chozuba Temsunaro Aier. Melodies folk song was presented by CCRI. Vice president NPF, Pusazo Luruo also spoke on the occasion.
