Dimapur Suburban Police, nabbed one person on August 1 evening, suspected to be a member of the Dima Halam Daogah (DHD), an Assam-based militant outfit (currently in cease fire with the government), for the kidnap of a 13-year old minor from Diphu.
Police identified the accused as one Dibra Gede (26), son of Anilal Dibra Gede, and a resident of Ganeshnagar, Dimapur. The other two accomplices however managed to escape.
Talking to Nagaland Post, SDPO Dimapur, Relo Aye, revealed that the kidnap victim, a minor and student of class V and a resident of Sharda Pati, Diphu, Assam, was kidnapped on July 25 from Diphu. The gang demanded Rs.20 lakhs from the victim’s parents.
Relo said that the kidnappers used to call up the victim’s family from Dhansiripar bazar, Dimapur and after negotiations, the ransom amount was reduced to Rs.5 lakhs.
Relo also disclosed that the victim’s family had paid the ransom amount on July 30 evening near supermarket area, Dimapur. A police team led by OC, sub-urban police station, Apong Jamir, tacked the calls of the victim’s family to a particular place and arrested the accused. However, the whereabouts of the minor was still unknown.
He also told Nagaland Post that the victim’s family had paid the ransom without informing police. It was only when the victim was not released, that they registered a complaint with Diphu Police. In turn, Diphu Police requested the help of Dimapur Police to pursue investigation. The accused was later handed over to Diphu police on August 2.
Dead body identified
Meanwhile, Dimapur police has identified the dead body discovered near Thilixu village church, Dimapur, as Yorumi Taman (26), son of late Vareichung Taman of Chingjaroi, Ukhrul (Manipur), suspected to belong to the NSCN (K).
Police said that extortion slips belonging to NSCN (K) were also found near the body. The body was later handed over to the relatives.
