Clarifying  the speech of NSCN (I-M) steering committee member Rev. A. Puni, as reported in a section of local press August 29 last, Mao council Wednesday said that Rev. A. Puni’s speech had been “misinterpreted as he spoke in local dialect.”

Rev. Puni was speaking at the 65th Naga Martyrs’ Anniversary held at Mao Gate Town Council Hall August 28 last. In a release, Mao Council public relation & publicity secretary Lokho Ozho quoted Rev. A. Puni as saying that “in those days, the Meities were at their deep slumber but while the Naga struggle were in full swing.”

According to Mao council, Rev. Puni, on the other hand, said ongoing dialogue between the NSCN (I-M) and the government of India had been going on and was likely to come to a logical conclusion soon, and not as reported earlier.
