
State Health & Family Welfare (H&FW) department has once again expressed concern over the rise in Covid-19 related hospitalization in the state, indicating that more undetected cases were circulating in the community, particularly in Dimapur and Kohima.
In its weekly bulleting released, the health department noted that new admissions in Covid-19 hospitals were not declining for the last five weeks especially in Dimapur and Kohima.
Though the weekly positive cases between July 10-16 was at 689 with 79 being hospitalized, the data showed that despite lesser positive cases being reported between July 17-23 at 640, there were 80 hospitalization.
After maintaining a steady decline for the past three weeks, the weekly positivity rate in Dimapur doubled to 8% between July 17-23. The previous week (July 10-16), Dimapur had recorded 109 cases, but the cases rose to 214 the following week (July 17-23).
Besides Dimapur, the health department also said that Phek, Wokha, Longleng and Peren had reported spike in new cases as compared to the previous week.
The department said that 640 new cases and 18 deaths were reported from the week compared to 689 cases and 12 deaths the week before.
Though the overall state’s weekly sample positivity rate remained at 8% for the past two weeks, H&FW said that Kohima, Longleng and Wokha reported weekly sample positivity rate of more than 10%. Weekly positivity rate of Kohima dropped from 22% to 16% while Longleng saw an increase from 11% to 14% and Wokha witnessed a spike of 5%– from 7% to 12%.
State logs 124 fresh cases, 1 Covid death
Nagaland on Saturday recorded 124 fresh Covid-19 positive cases pushing the total caseload to 27240 while one more patient succumbed to the infection in Dimapur.
According to the Health department data, of the fresh cases, 52 were from Dimapur, Kohima-37, Mokokchung-11, Peren-10, four in Mon, three in Longleng, two in Tuensang and one each in Kiphire, Wokha and Zunheboto.
The death toll also surged to 538 (including 14 non-Covid deaths but with positivity).
