Sumi Hoho (SH) has appealed to the state government to expedite the processes of establishing a full-fledged degree engineering college at Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu (KPA) and start the first batch by 2022, saying there were “enough infrastructural facilities to accommodate more than 60 students in a batch.”

According to SH, the KPA established in 1972 was the oldest polytechnic in Nagaland. The hoho also said that the cabinet in December 2007 approved upgradation of KPA, which recently received NBA accreditation, to degree engineering college. However, it expressed dismay that KPA was yet to start degree programme.

In a press release, SH president Nikheto Zhimomi and general secretary Dr. Vihuto Asumi stated that the hoho at its executive committee during a meeting on July 23 reiterated earlier resolutions on the upgradation process of KPA.

The signatories said that the hoho also resolved extend full support to the college authority of KPA in the upgradation processes and would not remain silent spectator when someone attempts to sabotage the upgradation process.

Meanwhile, the hoho stated that a consultative meeting was held at KPA on July 21 under the initiative of Er. Picto Shohe, MLA Atoizu assembly constituency. The issue of KPA upgradation was discussed threadbare at the meeting attended by the district administration, KPA college administration, Sümi Hoho and its frontal organizations, Atoizu area civil society groups and landowners of KPA.

At the meeting, SH said the land owners reaffirmed their earlier decision to sell the land to the department as per the scheduled rate of the government and would be “free from all encumbrances.”

It further said that the landowners and local-based organisations assured “fullest cooperation” to the government in the processes of upgradation.

Meanwhile, SH has appealed to deputy chief minister Y Patton, who also holds home and roads & bridges, to repair the road connectivity to KPA (from Akuluto to Khitsakita via Asukhuto and from Doyang to Atoizu) and also create a police outpost at Asukhuto.

SH has expressed gratitude to PHED minister Jacob Zhimomi for assuring to connect water supply facility to KPA at the earliest.
