In a tragic incident, one bystander near a house where a fire broke out was killed when a splinter from a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinder blast hit him on his chest.
Dimapur police has identified the victim as one Nirmal Das (30) son of Gopal Das presently residing at Thilixu village. Police stated that a kitchen and an attached thatched house belonging to one assistant general manager (AGM) under NST Zunheboto, Vitokhe caught fire reportedly due to “electrical short circuit”.
Dimapur police also stated that three cylinders exploded in the fire during which Nirmal Das was killed when he was hit on the chest by the splinters of the cylinder. Police also said properties worth around Rs. 30 lakhs were destroyed in the fire.
According to eye witnesses, the victim along with others was standing about thirty feet away from the house when they suddenly heard the cylinder blast.
The splinter first hit two teak trees nearby before hitting the victim on the chest. Witnesses stated that the victim ran after he was hit by the splinter and died few meters away from the spot.
Bystanders also claimed that the house caught fire after fat oil dripping from the meat kept above the fireplace for smoking. It was also learned that the house owners were not present in the house when the incident occurred.
The victim left behind his pregnant wife and three daughters. Another person indentified as one Govind Sharma sustained injury when another splinter also hit him. He was discharged after first aid.
