Recently launched Central Nagaland Tribal Council (CNTC) Friday appealed to the Joint Legislators Forum (JLF) to implement its resolution in ‘letter and spirit’ for bringing early settlement to the Naga political issue by sacrificing “individual interest” for solution and not election.
In a statement, CNTC president Ntsemo Ngullie and general secretary Imtinochet said “resignation” should come first before the solution and pointed out that resignation after solution would be “meaningless” since the term of the JLF would come to an end with the declaration of the election.
CNTC reminded that after more than 15 years of political dialogue between the government of India and Naga groups, the JLF on July 19, 2012 took a resolution in order to extend “constructive and speedy” solution.
The council said that last month the Congress legislators had decided to resign from the assembly provided the Naga People’s Front (NPF) legislators were also willing to do the same to pave way for an early solution considering the state of the ongoing political dialogue and the ensuing assembly elections in early 2013.
CNTC also pointed out that none of the political parties have achieved what they had promised in their election manifestos that proclaimed their efforts to facilitate the ongoing Naga political process so that a solution could be thrashed out at the earliest.
After introspecting the pros and cons of the activism of different political parties and the JLF resolution, CNTC appealed to the legislators to implement their decision for the cause of the Nagas to achieve the long cherished desire of the people for solution and not election.
While appealing all Naga political groups to shun violence and killings, CNTC also urged them to come “closer” and jointly fight for a common goal and peaceful existence in “our homeland.”
It may be mentioned that CNTC was officially launched on December 8 with the moto “Unity, Brotherhood and Fraternity” amid presence of hundreds representing – Sümis, Kyongs and Aos of Dimapur at IMC hall.
CNTC has clarified that the council was not against any government whether “overground or underground” or against any particular community or individual.
It has welcomed any tribal Hohos willing to join the common platform to strengthen its hand in its endeavour for the betterment of the Naga society in the days to come.
CNTC is led by Ntsemo Ngullie as president, Hokiye Yepthomi as vice-president, and Imtinochet as general secretary with 15 other federal assembly members to be inducted soon.
MLAs, MPs, pol parties to meet next year: Speaker
Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and convenor Joint Legislators Forum (JLF) Keyanilie Peseyie Friday said he had proposed to hold a meeting for the JLF and representatives of other political parties in the state next year.
Speaking to NEPS, Peseyie stated that once the “proposal” was finalized, the meeting would only be held next year. He said the meeting would share views on how it could “solve the impasse and go ahead” to see that the Naga political issue reach its logical conclusion.
The JLF Convenor admitted there were differences of opinion between the Congress and Naga People’s Front (NPF).
Describing the 60 Nagaland legislators’ trip to Delhi as “historic,” Peseyie said everyone should appreciate that “journey” and meeting with the Prime Minister and other central leaders.
“Even the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, while lauding JLF, said the Naga issue was unique,” he said. Peseyie also stated that they could not take any resolution on the December 10 JLF meeting at Chumukedima.
It may be mentioned that CLP leader Tokheho Yepthomi said the Congress in its meeting on December 12 in Dimapur suggested that a meeting of all political parties, NGOs and civil societies be convened by the speaker as some political parties do not have MLAs and therefore it might not be proper for JLF to convene such a meeting.
