Aggrieved Medical Employees’ Union Wokha (AMEUW)’s protest against non-release of their salaries and demand for re-instatement of their services entered its sixth day here at the Chief Medical Officer’s (CMO) office Wokha Saturday.

AMEUW leaders informed Nagaland Post that Friday night they received an unsigned letter dated January 11 addressed to their president and issued in the name of health and family welfare principal director Dr. Neiphi Kire.

They claim that the letter expressed Dr. Kire’s deep concern with the problems being faced by the 70-odd employees under Chief Medical Officer, Wokha.

The letter further stated that the same problem was being faced by others in Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Kiphire districts as well.

It informed that the report of the vigilance and anti-corruption department regarding their appointment has been received and was under examination by the government.

The leaders claim that in the letter, Dr. Kire said he has requested the government to speed up the process for arriving at its logical conclusion at the earliest besides urging the protestors to refrain from picketing the CMO office so as to allow smooth functioning of the office.

AMEUW responded back Saturday and shot off an e-mail stating that the union would continue picketing of the CMO’s office, Wokha till a positive response from the department/dovernment was received.

AMEUW reminded that it was left with no other option than to resort to picketing all health centres in Wokha district in the next phase of the protest followed by a hunger strike if a positive response was not received.

Stating that the chief medical officer, Wokha has been out of station till date and since the beginning of the protest, AMEUW requested the department/government to take note of its decision to continue with the protest till such time a positive response was assured.

On January 7, AMEUW submitted a memorandum to the health and family welfare principal director demanding release of their salaries and re-instatement of service for the 70 odd members of their union whose salaries had been held up since April 2012.
