Candidacies for Feb. 23 polls

With hardly two weeks before filing of nominations, more have declared their candidatures for the forthcoming February 23 polls across Nagaland.

28 Koridang: In 28 Koridang assembly constituency, sitting NPF member and home minister Imkong L.Imchen who hails Mangmetong village, will face retired Deputy director for soil & water conservation T. Chalukumba Ao.

Sources told Nagaland Post that two more candidates were expected to shortly announce their candidatures.

It was learnt that T. Chalukumba Ao received support of Chungtia village. Imchen had won the seat as an independent candidate in 2003 and later retained it in 2008 on NPF ticket. (Correspondent)

NCP’s 1st list: NCP has cleared the first five names of candidates to contest the February 23 election in several constituencies  NCP state unit president Neiba Ndang informed Nagaland Post Thursday that he will contest for  6 Tening A/C against sitting Congress member Tarie.

Ndang had earlier won the 7 Peren seat on Congress ticket in 1993 and uncontested in 1998 but lost to NPF first timer Vatsu Meru in 2003. Dr. T.M Lotha will contest on NCP ticket for 38 Wokha;  T.L Sendok Phom for 50 Longleng;  Imtilemba Sangtam for 52Longkhim-Chare and Khumo for 57 Thonoknyu. Ndang said the NCP’s second list would be announced within a day or two while the final list probably by January 29. (Staff Reporter)

16 Pfutsero: Zuketsa Area Public Organisation (ZAPO), at the 40th general session Thursday decided to back NPCC-PAC convener K. Therie’s candidature for 16 Pfutsero. This was stated by ZAPO president Pfuchukha Krome and general secretary ZAPO Neitso Therie. Therie first won the seat in 1993 on Congress ticket and was uncontested in 1998 as Congress candidate. He retained the seat in 2003 on NPF ticket but lost in 2008 as Congress candidate to current sitting NPF member Neiba Kronu.

4 Ghaspani-I: Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) Khekiho Zhimomi is likely to contest for the 4 Ghaspani-I assembly constituency which he won in 1989 on NPC and 2003 on NPF ticket. He lost the seat in 2008 to Congress candidate Hewoto Awomi. Independent candidate Jacob Zhimomi is also in the fray. The Congress is likely to set up a woman candidate. (Staff Reporter)

45 Tehok: Former Lok Sabha MP Wangyuh Konyak has declared that he will be contesting from the 45 Tehok assembly constituency. He disclosed this to media persons at his Kuda village residence here Thursday. He was uncontested in the 1998 election and retained it in 2003 as Congress candidate. C.L.John of NPF is the current sitting member.

12 Tseminyu: A fifth candidate T.Subu Rengma has declared his candidacy for the 12 Tseminyu assembly seat on Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) ticket. The other candidates include-sitting NPF member R.Khing, NCP candidate Col.(Retd) S.Rengma, Congress candidate Nillo Rengma and Independent candidate Er.Levi Rengma.
