Microbiology department, Naga Hospital Authority (NHAK), the first medical laboratory in Nagaland, received National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) Accreditation in quality testing.
NABL accreditation ceremony was held Tuesday at the NHAK auditorium.
The accreditation process was funded by National Aids Control Organization (NACO) and Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS).
Government of India has authorized NABL as the accreditation body for testing lab that operates as an autonomous body under the aegis of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) ministry of science and technology.
The department in Naga Hospital Authority has various functioning laboratories like the State Reference Lab (SRL) for HIV test, Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre (ICTC) lab, Serology lab, CD4 lab, culture and sensitivity testing lab.
NSACS project director N.L. Chankija and NHAK medical superintendent Dr. Vizolie Suokhrie in their brief addresses congratulated the department for achieving another milestone and urged the faculties to continue their efforts and make NHAK a centre of excellence.
Naga Hospital Authority head of microbiology Dr. Margaret Yhome said the department of microbiology has received the highest form of achievement for a medical lab where a systematic approach to check the quality of the laboratory which conformed to workflow through pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic phase.
She said the laboratory generates results that were accepted nationally and internationally and has helped in saving time and money due to reduction or elimination for re-testing.
Dr. Margaret Yhome also highlighted the benefits of getting NABL accreditation for a medical laboratory.
Vizohulie Edward, administrative officer Naga Hospital Authority compered the function while Adeno Kennao, technical officer, SRL, Kohima proposed vote of thanks. Doctors and nurses from the hospital attended the function.
