Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur, Hushili Sema Thursday called upon the village functionaries to make the best out of the time bound central flagship programmes which are being given to help the state move ahead.
Hushili was the chief guest at the inaugural function of the Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance training which kicked off on March 7 at the office premises of the Executive Engineer, PHED (Rural) division, Dimapur.
The target group covers 50 villages under Dhansiripar, Medziphema, Niuland, Kuhuboto blocks.
Delivering a straight talk, she said that one has to access the facilities offered and not misuse it, as the schemes are not going to continue forever while urging the participants, comprising the Water and Sanitation Committee chairman, Village Council Chairman and Church representatives of the blocks to act as responsible citizens of the village, as they have been chosen by the people, adding, “You represent the society..
You should pay back to the society for ‘the trust’ bestowed on them”. While acknowledging the department and its staff for doing their best to help the society, she also hoped that such trainings would be held more often and apprised that the department is the bridge between the government and the villages and with communitisation, the community should reciprocate positively by doing their bit to avail the optimum benefits.
Earlier, Executive Engineer, PHED(R) division, Dimapur, Er. Tongpang Longkumer dwelt on the objective of the ongoing training which is to sensitise the village heads on the importance of safe drinking water and health hazards associated with contaminated water.
He said the people can now easily access the best of technology from our state these days, unlike the past where water testing was tedious and done outside the state, referring to the department laboratory available in Dimapur. Project Engineer, PHED, Rural Division Dimapur, Er. Mersen gave the introductory address.
The function was chaired by Vibou Seyie, IEC consultant. Later on, technical sessions were led by Er. Mersen, Imojungla Longkumer, Sanitation and Hygiene Consultant, Ravolezo, Sr. Chemist and Er. Tiamongba. Field Testing Kits were distributed and procedures shared on the occasion.
