Excise mobile squad personnel duty manning Chumukedima excise gate during routine frisking and checking seized 140 cases of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from a Maruti car (NL 08 2109) Thursday around 2 p.m. and apprehended two persons.
The accused have been identified as Suresh Rai alias Chunthaipou Gudu (driver) son of Sakal Rai resident of Gorapatti Golaghat road, Dimapur and his accomplice Lhipeni Khutso son of late Kashüno Khutso of Zapami village.
According to superintendent of excise (mobile squad), Ghokiho Yeptho each bottle was neatly wrapped with paper to buffer the clicking sound and concealed on the floor, beneath the carpet of the car.
Some bottles were also concealed inside a secret chamber which was welded underneath the passenger’s seat.
Appreciating the excise mobile squad under the command of AIE, Chingten Konyak, Yeptho said that given the modus operadi unless strict vigilance was maintained, it would be impossible to detect such bootlegging.
