Konyak Community on Monday observed the 8th death anniversary of Panglem Konyak and Chatai Konyak of Totok Chingnyu Village who were abducted and murdered by the NSCN (I-M) during the Konyak peace rally at Leangha Village on March 18, 2005.
The programme was organized under the aegis of Konyak Students’ Union (KSU), where Konyak Union (KU), Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong (KNSK), KSU advisory board members, Konyak Baptist Bumeinok Bangjum (KBBB) staff, family members of the victims, students and public of Mon town attended the programme at KSU Martyrs park.
A brief background of the incident was delivered by president KSU Methna while P.M. Nockpai who was the vice-president then, gave a detailed episode of the 2005 incident.
Short speeches were delivered by vice president KU and Yianglong and Yanlong Konyak president Totok Union Mon Town.
Words of gratitude and appreciation to the organizer was proposed by Chongying on behalf of the victims family.
The programme was chaired by secretary social & cultural, KSU Yanngan while invocation prayer was pronounced Nahngom, pastor KBCM.
Meanwhile, in a statement, KSU president Methna Konyak and general secretary Manwang Konyak has notified that the location of the ‘Park’ shall be now called- ‘KSU Martyr’s Park’ and not ‘Private Bus Stand’.
Therefore all shops and business establishments in and around the area have been directed to change their ‘sign-board’ within this month.
Failing which, the union said defaulters would be dealt with sternly. The union further acknowledged the participants for their support in making the programme a success.
