Chavara Home run by Carmelite sister in Purana Bazar has 13 school-going girl orphans , some of who are HIV positive passed from parents and those of single parents, receiving free medical treatment and given free education etc. The Home also provides free medical treatment to scores of people afflicted with Tuberculosis (TB).
Observing advanced World TB Day, which is on March 24, the home organised a function on March 21, where Dr Khelito the medical officer in-charge of the Designated Microscopy Centre (DMC) at Purana Bazar,gave a talk with power point presentation on the status of TB and various action plans of the state government.
Chavara Home is one of the several DMCs where free tests and treatment for TB is provided. The function was also addressed by Editor Nagaland Post Geoffrey Yaden, as chief guest.
In his speech the chief guest lauded the works of charity carried out with tireless sacrifice and commitment by Chavara Home especially for the poor, needy and excluded sections of society.
He exhorted the Carmelite Sisters under Sister Superior Merline to continue with Christ’s commission for the disadvantaged sections. He also praised the dedicated works of DMC in-charge Dr Khelito.
The chief guest also encouraged the beneficiaries of TB treatment, to also show their gratitude to Chavara Home by extending help towards the objective of eradicating TB.
Gifts in the form of medicines were handed over to scores of TB patients by the chief guest and Chief Parish Priest of Holy Cross Fr.Chacko.Highlights included special presentations by the inmates and testimonies by some of the patients. Fr.George of Don Bosco Technical Institute was also present on the occasion.
