Former CBI director and DGP Himachal Pradesh Dr. Ashwani Kumar, who was sworn-in as Governor of Nagaland on March 21, urged the people to formulate a vision for Nagaland based on moral and ethical values.
The Governor buttressed his clarion call with a quote from a biblical verse (Proverbs 29:18)– “Where there is no vision, people perish”, stated a communiqué issued by PRO to the Governor and joint director IPR Dominic Yasokie.
Expressing happiness on assuming office as Governor, Kumar also gave a one-line message to the people in Nagamese: “Moi yate aha to beshi khushipai-ashe.”
Governor Ashwani also reposed full faith in the people, in the wisdom of the elders, in the energy of the youth and in the resilience of women for attaining a lasting peace to the decades-old conflict.
Further, the Governor called for deeper self introspection amidst the age of rapid changes and transitions in the world and to seek inspiration from the Scriptures or words of wisdom of the sages.
He also quoted Mahatma Gandhi’s idiom: “Where there is love, there is life” and “Even if you are in a minority of one, the truth is always the truth.”
Ashwani Kumar also recalled the warmth and hospitality of the Nagas during his visit to the state in 1980s.
He said Nagaland with its beautiful hilly terrain, was similar to Himachal Pradesh and this made him feel a sense of “homeliness.”
Making an appeal for cooperation and support from all sections of the society, Kumar also assured he would work for the welfare of the people and for peace.
He also opined that talents of the youths should be channelized into “creative endeavours” and cited achievers like late Major N. Linyü and Ms Chekrovolu Swuro as examples.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the people of Nagaland and the state government for the warm reception accorded to him and his family in Dimapur and Kohima and wished the people of Nagaland, peace, prosperity, good health and happiness.
The PRO also informed that the Governor’s message to the people of Nagaland delivered on Friday would be telecast on DDK at 6.30 p.m. and broadcast on AIR, Kohima at 7.30 p.m. on Saturday
