More observe ‘International Day against Drug abuse and illicit Trafficking’

Along with the rest of the world, ‘International Day against Drug abuse and illicit trafficking’ was observed in Longleng Wednesday in a form of rally under the theme ‘Think health not drugs’. The rally started from SP office and culminated at first police point Longleng. 

Hundreds of people from all walks of life took part by holding placards which read “Drugs charms but kills”, “Life with drugs is a living in hell”, “Drugs trafficking is cancerous for society” etc. the programme was organized by DEF Longleng.

Various speakers from district administration, police, PPC, medical, PBCA and drugs users Longleng spoke on drugs abuse and its impact on human lives. The relevant act on NDPS was shared for public awareness by SDPO Longleng.

While speaking on the occasion, DC Longleng appreciated DEF Longleng for organizing the programme and urged them to do more good works even in the days to come. He said, drugs was the main negative factor that effects human existence directly or indirectly and urged the gathering to be a role model so to eradicate drug menace and make Longleng district a “drug free zone.”

Earlier, keynote address was delivered by SP Longleng and prayer for the success of the programme was pronounced by executive secretary PBCA Longleng, Nuklu Phom. (Correspondent)

NMC: Nagaland Motorcycle Club is not just about riding Royal Enfield’s and touring places or participating at different rallies but the club is also involved in charity works too.

The club members of Dimapur chapter on Wednesday led by its president Atsung Changkija visited Prodigals Home and donated foodstuff. This initiative was carried in relation to International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The club since its inception in its little way has been doing charity service and has admitted that it wants to continue as a part of the club’s regular activity. The club hopes to visit orphanages in days to come.

The other upcoming events are NE Riders’ Meet, which will be held at Aizawl in October 21-26 and the Rider Mania (RM) at Chennai in January next.

RM is an event hosted by Brotherhood of Bulleteers Motorcycling Community (BOBMC) Member clubs in India every year. It is the annual gathering of Indian Royal Enfield motorcycle owners.

YMS: Joining with the rest of the world Yingli Mission Society (YMS) organized a programme commemorating ‘International Day against Drug abuse and illicit trafficking’ Wednesday at Longleng with executive secretary, PBCA, Y. Nuklu as guest of honour. The programme was attended by 150 participants.

Short speeches were delivered by Langba, a recovering addict, youth secretary PBCA, Phaknyu, and games and sports secretary, PSC, Yengcha.

The program was supported by PBCA, PSC, Phomla Hoichem, Longleng Chamber of Commerce, District Health Society, Longleng.

MON: Mon Users Network , Shansham organization, Evergreen welfare society , DAPCU and Project Axshya ( CHAI)  along with the rest of the world observed  International Day against Drug abuse and illicit trafficking’ under the theme ‘Make health your new high not Drugs’ at District Hospital Mon.

Speaking on the significance of the day member of MUN, Yaren said that the day was observed as a reminder of the disastrous and negative impact that pose to community ,society and individual due to drug abuse and trafficking.

Sharing his experiences as a drug user, Chingnon admitted that drug has affected his physical, mental and emotional aspect of life.

Chingnon also shared his experiences on OST programme. On the present scenario at Mon district, general secretary, Shashi said that there were more than 1300 IDU registered in the NGOs within the district.

He however said that there were more people who are on opium who need the services. Shashi also emphasized on the urgent need for users community.

Key resource people for the programme were Nodal Officer OST, Dr Yanger; vice president Konyak Students union, Joseph. The program was supported by Konyak Student Union.
