Kawoto’s death condoled

The editorial board of “Yepthomi Chronicles” has condoled the death of H Kawoto Sukhalu Yepthomi, retired PA to Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto and Head GB, Kawoto village. Kawoto passed away recently at the age of 88.

In a release, Vihuto Yepthomi, chief editor, “Yepthomi Chronicles” and former secretary to the Government of Nagaland, said, “In H Kawoto Sukhalu Yepthomi’s death, the Yepthomi clan and Sumis have lost a great leader.”

According to Vihuto Yepthomi, H Kawoto Sukhalu Yepthomi had rendered valuable service to the British Government. He was with CR Pawsey, the then Deputy Commissioner, Kohima in the underground cell with undeterred heart during the entire period of the Kohima battle.

The British Government has put his name on the roll of heroes. It also awarded a Certificate of Mention to him in 1945. This was great honour conferred on H Kawoto Sukhalu Yepthomi.

“H Kawoto Sukhalu Yepthomi had great concern for the Nagas with particular reference to the Sumis in political and religious crises,” Vihuto Yepthomi said, while recalling H Kawoto Sukhalu Yepthomi’s key role in the formation of United SBAK.

Vihuto Yepthomi said, “H Kawoto Sukhalu Yepthomi was a senior member of the Yepthomi clan, and took initiative for research work for ‘Yepthomi Chronicles’. He also hosted the research workers in his house at Kawoto village on October 10, 2000. With his active co-operation, ‘Yepthomi Chronicles’ could be published in 2001.”
