Nagas earned bad image for killing Amur Falcon: Patton

Minister of forest and border affairs Y. Patton admitted that Nagas have earned a bad reputation globally for trapping and killing migratory Amur Falcons for consumption and commercial sale.

Asserting this, Patton maintained the “best time to set right our name and dignity will be tested starting this coming October when these avian visitors will arrive from Siberia en route to their final destination.”

The minister said this while inaugurating the Conservator of Forest (Northern Territorial Circle) Office in Mokokchung.

Speaking on the occasion, Patton thanked Ungma villagers for agreeing to sell the plot of land to the department way back in 1999.

Patton said he made a commitment on the floor of the State Assembly to immediately complete and inaugurate the office building in order to make it functional after sitting Congress MLA of the constituency Imtikumzuk raised the issue during the last Assembly session.

Appreciating MLA’s concern for the people of the area, he said that regardless of political line one should come forward and address the problems as long as it was for the development and benefit of the people.

Forest minister was optimistic that with the opening the office, the functioning of the circle office would definitely improvise developmental activities of the Forest Department to a great extent.

The newly inaugurated Conservator of Forest (NTC) office would look after the activities of six districts, namely, Mon, Tuensang, Kiphire, Longleng, Zunheboto and Mokokchung divisions.

Giving credit to the people of Nagaland for all these developments, Patton said it was the people who reposed their trust and gave their popular mandate to NPF-led DAN government under the leadership of NPF president Dr. Shürhozelie and chief minister Neiphiu Rio for the third consecutive terms thus enabling the government to carry out all round development.

Minister also called upon the department staffs to provide quality service by utilizing various facilities and infrastructures provided by government.

Patton warned that erring department staffs would be checked regularly and suspended without warning since their responsibility was to serve the people.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by K. Shohe, CF (NTC) and short speeches were also delivered by L. Kire (IFS), Comm & Secretary (Forest) and M. L Rao (IFS) PCCF & Head of Forest Force.
