State government has urged the Assam government to direct responsible district administration to take necessary steps for lifting “Chakha Bandh” imposed on movement of trucks carrying essentials to Nagaland.
The bandh call was given by Hills Area Trucks Owners Association (HATOA) of Assam on the pretext that road to Nagaland from Mariani was in a deplorable condition, said state chief secretary Lalthara in a letter to his Assam counterpart N.K. Das. According to DIPR report, the state chief secretary also informed that particular road was a GS road under Border Roads Organisation and they have taken up emergency repairs in several locations where the condition was bad.
He said the road was in a much better condition. Lalthara also informed the Assam chief secretary that HATOA was not allowing movement of trucks from Assam to Nagaland via NH-61 connecting Amguri with Mokokchung. Lalthara regretted that non-movement of trucks carrying essentials has led to scarcity of essential commodities in four districts of Nagaland.
