Pro-Rural, an NGO working for empowerment, employment and environment with the support of Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India Saturday organized a one-day state level seminar on “Environmental conservation through community participation in better waste management” for community leaders at AIDA complex, Don Bosco School Compound, Dimapur.
The seminar had two sessions. During the first session, Meren Imchen, scientist “B” of Nagaland Pollution Control Board gave a general introduction to environmental issues.
He said “Environmental issues are any issues created due to human activities and cause harm to the environment.” He also revealed that Air pollution level in Dimapur in 2010, 2011 and 2013 showed figures above the national standard.
The next was a technical session dealing with solid waste management and way forward topic “from waste to wealth approach”.
Community Development Specialist under ADB funded projects in NE, Paul Lokho gave a presentation on what and how solid wastes can be managed.
The next presentation was on the topic “from waste to wealth approach” by managing director, Better Life Foundation, Nagaland Sethrichem Sangtam.
The technical session was followed by a group discussion and action planning while the vote of thanks was delivered by Kahuli Swu of Pro-Rural.
