At least six parents and guardians of students studying in class XI and XII have alleged that their wards have been “tortured” by a certain “student mob” and they have been threatened by the same students for quite some time now.
In a joint press release, the six, representing the parents and guardians of the 51 students (25 boys and 26 girls) who have been “threatened” and “tortured” said on September 19 morning, one of their wards, a class XI student was called out of class, in front of the class teacher and was beaten up.
The same evening three more students were threatened by the students, said the parents and guardian adding that similar incidents have been noted since the beginning of the academic year.
The parents and the guardians alleged that this “mob of students” studying in class X have been “bullying and ragging” other students and even took the “name of their tribe” asserting that they ruled the institution.
These students also carried “stick” even in the dormitory and dining hall and the teachers, principal and school administration have not been able to do anything about it as they had “no power over them”, alleged the parents and teachers.
According to the parents and guardians, on September 19, some parents complained and sought the intervention of the district administration and local bodies and even held a meeting between the student victims’ parents, school administration, ADC Peren, SDO (civil) Peren, Jalukie Village authorities, Jalukie Students’ Union and Zeliang Students’ Union.
The parents and guardians said that the matter seemed to have been settled but the victim students were threatened again with “dire consequences” right after the officials left.
The victimized students are now gripped with “fear and reluctance” to go back to the school, said the parents and guardians.
They also said “many unaccounted physical tortures” have made the victims reluctant to go back and alleged that the school administration and local bodies have failed to give them any assurance on their safety.
Stating that the victims were now even more “worried and disturbed” as their 1st semester examination has been scheduled from September 26, the parents and the guardians have sought the immediate intervention of Naga Students’ Federation and higher district authority over the issue on or before September 23.
They also warned that if the issue was not addressed, the parents were ready to “go to any extent” in order to deliver justice to their “victimized children”.
