Naga Students’ Union Shillong (NSUS) organised its 53rd general fresher’s social Function on October 5, at Naga Community Hall, Nagaland House Shillong.
Kuzholuzo Nienu (Azo) minister, roads and bridges, graced the occasion as the chief guest and Dr. Ngachan Fransis Kapai, director, ICAR, Shillong, as special guest.
The chief guest in his speech congratulated the meritorious students for coming out with flying colors, and encouraged them to keep stay away from various forms of temptations.
Azo also stated that sovereignty can be only achieved by faith in God and unity among the Naga people; and regretted on learning that the Ao Students’ Union Shillong was not affiliated to the apex NSUS body. To this, he requested the “advance” communities to become a unifying force with a sense of maturity.
While summarizing his speech, he encouraged the freshers to have strong determination and will power to make their dreams come true and as a form of encouragement, Azo contributed Rs. 2 lakh to the NSUS office and Rs. 5,000 each to all the federating units.
The chief guest also released the cultural cassette. The programme was launched by unfurling the union flag, followed by the cultural dance from Tangkhul Student’s Union Shillong.
The formal function started with invocation from Mughalu (SCF pastor) and the NCF committee members enthralled the gathering with their welcome song.
Introduction of the office bearers was followed by presidential address. Greeting was delivered by Naga Elders Forum Shillong, Naga Research Scholars’ Forum and the special guest.
Special prayer for the fresher’s was pronounced by Roukouvilie Sachu (associate pastor, NCF Shillong) which was followed by a short speech from ARC, Nagaland house (also chairman of the advisory board NSUS).
NSUS also acknowledged meritorious students’ who secured high ranks in their last HSLC, HSSLC and degrees examinations with certificates.
The function was favoured by special tune from Sumi Christian Fellowship Shillong. The formal session concluded with a benediction by Roukouvilie Sachu.
