Aoleang festival was celebrated by Konyaks at Mon and Dimapur respectively with gaiety. In Mon, the festival was celebrated at Local grond Mon Town, with MLA and chairman NKVIB Y.M Yollow and deputy commissioner Mon Honje Konyak, as chief guest and Guest of Honor respectively while in Dimapur, Chen Union Dimapur (CUD) celebrated the Festival at the union mission Ex-MLA Shaboh, as the chief speaker.
In Mon, speaking as the chief guest, Y.M Yollow said Aoleang festival was celebrated since time immemorial and expressed hope that one day, the festival would be celebrated outside Mon district and expose the tribe’s distinct culture to the world.
He also urged the Konyak youth to respect the elders and appealed the Konyak community to work together for peace and development.
Pointing out that most of the Konyak youth today are naive of the tradition and customs, the deputy commissioner urged upon the Konyak elders to be thorough with traditions and customs so as to impart correct customs and traditional values to the younger generation.
Emphasizing on the need to preserve Konyak traditions and customs and at the same time impart them to the younger generation, Honje Konyak also urged upon the Konyak leaders and elders to take the initiatives in establishing a cultural institute.
The Aoleang celebration program was organised by Konyak Union and was attended by Commanding Officer 33 A.R, Sabu (Industrialist) from Delhi, Khoiwang Wangsha, President ENPO, Toshi Wangtong, Advisor ENPO and tourist from both national and international.
The highlights of the day were grand feast and traditional dance and songs from Aboi Union, Chen Union, Chi Union, Hongphoi Union, Leangha Union, Leangnyu Union, Longkei Union, Longwa Union, Mon Union, Moka Union, Shang Union, Sheanghah Union, Tang union, Tizit Area Union, Tobu Area Union Totok Union, Wakching area union.
Earlier, the program was chaired by A.Peihwang Wangsa, invocation by Reverend Chingang, opening of Aoleang by Tobu Union Mon Town, Welcome address by Manlip Chohwanglim, President Konyak Union.
In Dimapur, Ex-MLA Shaboh in his speech deliberated on importance of traditional culture of the Aoleang festival and how the next generation should take carry it along with the fast changing society.
Earlier, the programme was inaugurated by associate pastor, Konyak Baptist Fellowship, Diphupar Thaochi who prayed for the Chen community of the Dimapur District. Teihgngam and co. presented a special traditional Chen song on the ancestral customary values and its importance in the current advancing scenario. The programme ended with prayer from L. Noklem, executive member.
