Will intensify stir if demands not met: ENSF

November 12, 2013 | by admin

Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) has once again reminded that it would intensify the agitation unless the state government fulfills the demands raised by all its federating units without further delay.

Day one of the phase II agitation began Monday in all the four eastern districts- Kiphere, Longleng, Mon and Tuensang including two sub-divisions – Shamator  and Noklak.

On day-2 (Tuesday), ENSF said it would impose restriction on movement of all government vehicles in the entire eastern districts. However, district administration, law enforcing agencies, media and medical services have been exempted from the purview of the restriction.

In a statement, ENSF president Shahsha L. Menhahu and general secretary Honang M Jessuhu cautioned the state government that the federation would intensify its agitation if their demands were not fulfilled at the earliest.

ENSF acknowledged the school and college students for the success of the phase I agitation. It further assured that the stir would not disturb the functioning of educational institutions.

With regard to transfer of science teacher from Chiour, ENSF has asked the concerned department to immediately address the ultimatum served by Khiamniungan Students’ Union.

While appreciating DC Longleng and Kiphire for immediate intervention on the Mid Day Meal (MDM) issue, ENSF urged the DCs of Mon and Tuensang to replicate the same at the earliest.

ENSF asked the respective implementing agencies at the district level to submit the actual MDM provision received from 2011 to till date, to prepare and submit actual requirement or required provision basing on enrollment and schools statistical information within the district at the earliest.

Once the judicial procedures are completed at the grass root level, ENSF would convene a consultative meeting with the stakeholders to deliberate on MDM implementation issues.

ENSF further directed all federating units to prepare “Oath of assurance & declaration” in an affidavit signed by all the signatories on behalf of their respective schools or villages before the meeting.

“The signatures shall stand valid and be applicable even if the same incumbent is being replaced by another in future”, ENSF added.

This strategy, ENSF said, was to streamline for proper and regular implementation of MDM. It has also asked the MDM implementing agencies at the state level (directorate) dealing with the four eastern districts to prepare dispatch report of MDM for the past 5 years, to be handed over to ENSF through its federating units as an when it is required/demanded.

ENSF informed that the November 11 “negotiation meeting with the government” which was called off, would be held tentatively on 14-15 November after the completion of the phase II stir.

Kiphere: In Kiphere, United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) volunteers locked the DEO and SDEO offices and also organized a sit in protest in front of the office showing their resentment against the government for non-fulfillment of the Niathu agreement and Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) issue.

Longleng: In Longleng, thirty PSC volunteers Monday picketed and locked the DEO and SDEO in the morning.

The volunteers had also pasted a notice at the main entrance of the office which read “DEO and SDEO office will remain close till further notification is issued from the office of the ENSF.”
To verify road works before clearance

ENSF led by its president Shahsha L. Menhahu  along with its federating unit also held a meeting with the PWD (R&B) department at ENSF conference  hall, Tuensang Monday.

The meeting discussed the conditions of National Highway (NH) 155.  The federation strongly raised objections to the quality of workmanship along NH-155 (202).

ENSF has now decided that the federation and PWD (R&B) would jointly verify the work before giving clearance.

The student body also asked the responsible contractors to strictly follow the guidelines while discharging contract works for the benefit of the public.
