Dmu barbers sensitized on HIV & AIDS

An advocacy sensitization program for barbers under Dimapur Municipal Council was held on November 12 at District Hospital Chapel Hall (DHD) Dimapur.

The programme was jointly organized by Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), Kohima, district AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) Dimapur, Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), and Barbers Union Dimapur.

The program was chaired by Paul R. Chawang, Consultant, Mainstreaming, NSACS. Ganesh Sharma, liaison officer, DMC in his welcome note, thanked NSACS and DAPCU for conducting the program and for reaching out in giving awareness and sensitizing the barbers union under DMC on HIV & AIDS.

The participants were sensitized on basic of HIV & AIDS, STI and condom which was shared by Lucy where she highlighted the routes of transmission, signs and symptoms of STI and also on stigma and discrimination.

Topic on importance of blood testing and services available was shared by Atsung, program manager, Prodigals Home (Migrants), Dimapur.

Altogether 80 participants participated in the program, out of which, 25 barbers came forward for voluntary blood testing.
