A two-day seminar on the theme “Significance of land and its resources vis-a-vis tribal identity” began on November 14 at Clark Theological College (CTC).
The seminar is being organized by Clark Centre for Peace Research and Action (CCPRA) keeping in view the complex issues related to land and its resources for the tribals today.
The topics of the seminar are ‘Tribal Land Resources and its use’, ‘Gender perspectives on Land’, ‘Customary and modern laws on land’, ‘Biblical and theological perspectives on land’, ‘Border Land Disputes’, and ‘Modern land- related concerns like migration and urbanization’.
The resource persons are Dr. Wati Longchar, SCEPTRE, Kolkata; Alemtemshi, IAS, Chief Secretary, GoN; Dr. Imkongmeren, JNU, Delhi; T.N. Mannen, IAS (Retd); Dr. Sangtemkala, CTC; Er. Wati, DIO and BPCC (A-N) officials; Dr. Toshimenla, NU; Dr. Akumla, CTC and Dr. Rongsen, CTC.
Also, papers of Jelle J.P. Wouters, SMK, Gangtok, was read in absentia by Rev. Dr. Takatemjen, Principal, CTC.
Representatives from different colleges and peace centres in the northeast region are in attendance.
The seminar hopes to broaden tribals’ understanding of land and enable tribals to positively engage in the sustenance of land and its resources considering its indispensability to the life and identity of the tribals.
