Nagaland Tiber Traders’ Union (NTTU), District Timber Traders Union (DTTU) and District Timber Association (DTA) have submitted a representation to the state chief secretary demanding transparency in the wagon distribution system under tree felling and moulding beat schemes.

In a representation to the chief secretary, the timber traders demanded that a committee for allocation of wagon for timber transportation be set up.

They stated that the committee should be headed by other departments including forest department as secretary.

Timber traders also demanded that the committee should consist of other departments such as land resources, agri department, horticulture department etc. including members of NTTU.

In the event a committee was not constituted for distribution of wagons, the timber traders said NTTU would file PIL in the appropriate court of law since the present system was open to too much operation, which needed to be stopped immediately.

The signatories included NTTU president Kevise Sogotsu, Dimapur Timber Traders’ Union president Husca Zhimomi, Peren District Timber Traders’ Union president N. John Zeliang, Kohima Naga Timber Union president Thekrupa, Phek District Timber Association president Sanyi Dukru and Kiphire Timber Union president J.B. Shahoto.
