In a major haul, Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) of the 37 Assam Rifles, recovered 24,720 bottles/cans of assorted liquor (IMFL) from a truck (NL-01A-7928) travelling from Dimapur to Kohima on December 4 on the NH 29 at Ghaspani. The four occupants including the driver were identified as-Bibi Saha, John Sangma, Tumbangtizuk and M.Salam.
Later, when the truck along with the contraband was being taken to Medziphema Police Station to be handed over to Excise department, one person, identified as Kihketo Sema forcibly stopped the truck.
However when Kikheto realised that the occupants belong to Assam Rifles, he attempted to flee but was overpowered.
The AR said Kikheto was in possession of one 7.62 mm pistol with six live rounds. He also confessed that he had prior information about the transhipment of the liquor and stopped the truck to extort money from the driver. Kikheto also claimed he was from the GPRN/NSCN in the rank of ‘lieut’ and No.16897.
Those arrested handed over to Medziphema Police station while the IMFL was handed over to Inspector of Excise.
