ABAM committee to lead fight against ‘Socio-Political Evils’

Church functionaries such as pastors, associate pastor (Women), Youth Directors, Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) Social Concern Committee members along with Ao Senden, AKM, Watsu Mungdang, Women groups, village/ward leaders and unions of Ao community resolved to empower the Social Concern Committee to spearhead the ‘ collective movement’ against “Socio-Political Evils” .
This was one of the seven-point resolutions adopted at the meeting of the above groups held on January 28.
It was also decided that every church institution take keen spiritual initiative to help alcoholics in fighting against the “evil habit” and also to appeal to the state education department to include the subject “ The problem of alcohol & drug abuse” in the school curriculum.
The joint meeting also resolved to appeal to the state government to take serious action against sale of alcohol in the “dry state” by increasing number of excise personnel for proper implementation of the 25-year old ‘Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition’ Act.
On the issue of electoral malpractices, it was resolved to appeal to the Election Commission of India to take ensure that ‘Election Voter’s Photo ID Card’ was issued to every voter, failing which no polling station be permitted to be opened in such area. It was also resolved that every church and civil society take initiative to educate every citizen about their birth right.
The joint meeting also resolved that crime against women will not be tolerated and that any offender shall be “permanently excommunicated from our society”.  The meeting came in the light realisation of an urgent need for positive change through a collective movement against “Socio-Political Evils” stated a release by Mrs. Temsüla Lemdor, ABAM Co-ordinator, consultation on Liquor Prohibition and Clean Election.
