DDTDWTU seeks DMC adm intervention

Dimapur District Truck Drivers’ Welfare Trade Union (DDTDWTU) has sought the intervention of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) administrator on the collection of multiple taxes by DMC. In a representation submitted to the DMC administrator, DDTDWTU president Kaiho Zhimomi and general secretary Suren said that as per the notification made by DMC published in local dailies on January 21, parking tax was fixed at Rs. 20 per truck a day for plying in Dimapur and also trucks entering various gates were taxed according to the notification. DDTDWTU however argued that collection of monthly parking tax of Rs. 550 per truck by DMC besides collections made at truck garages, places of unloading the goods such as saw mills, godowns etc by DMC was clearly in “contravention” to the notification made in local dailies. DDTDWTU said it was pertinent to mention that the union members had decided not to pay taxes which were not prescribed as per the notification made by DMC. The union has asked the DMC administrator to intervene so as to avoid any untoward incidents which might arise in future.
