Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) stated that it received a complaint letter addressed to Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) by Butchers Union Kohima Town alleging suppliers at Dimapur charging Rs.135 per kg of pork as whole rate in violation of the DMC standing order that fixed the whole sale rate at Rs.130 per Kg.
In a press release, NVCO president Kezhokhoto Savi condemned the “excessive charges” by suppliers in violating the rights of the retailer as well as the rights of the consumers.
NVCO stated that rise of price in Dimapur, as the commercial hub of the state, further affects the entire corner of the state.
The organization has also appealed to the CEO/Administrator of DMC to consider the complaint letter submitted by the BUKT and take necessary action against the defaulters. NVCO president also appealed to all the butchers in the state especially the Butchers Union Kohima town to be fair and honest in weighing as the NVCO has been receiving many complaints from the consumers about the shortages in weighing meat.
According to NVCO, the price of pork keeps on increasing fixed by the municipal and town councils but the council never bothered to check the unfair means of practice in weightment. It stated that services of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection was indispensable to conduct surprise checking frequently in the market besides conducting in their offices.
NVCO further warned the butchers not to cheat the consumers in measurement failing which the general public may resort to raise their voice in action.
