F&M, black quarter outbreak in Jalukie

Outbreak of Foot & Mouth Disease (FMD), including suspected Black Quarter (BQ) has been reported in the Jalukie valley. 
According to a DIPR report, the SDO (C) Jalukie Rhosietho Nguori received a report that there was an outbreak of FMD and BQ in the valley which said that a large number of animals, particularly cattle and buffalo have been affected leading to deaths.
Doctors and staff of veterinary and animal husbandry were making efforts to take stock of the situation and contain the spread of the diseases. The public has been informed to take notice of the prevailing outbreak of the diseases and take all necessary/precautionary measures so as to prevent further spread. 
People have been cautioned to avoid consumption of meats till such time the situation was brought under control, said the report.
The administration has also issued orders to all butchers in Jalukie town not to sell meat to the public from unhealthy animals. Butcher(s) found acting contrary to the order would invite punitive action as per the provisions of law, said the report.  Foot-and-mouth disease is an infectious and sometimes fatal viral disease that affects cloven-hoofed animals. The virus causes a high fever for two or three days, followed by blisters inside the mouth and on the feet that may rupture and cause lameness. 
Black quarter disease is an acute infectious and highly fatal, bacterial disease of cattle. Buffaloes, sheep and goats are also affected.
