
Art and culture is the inert embodiment of humanity said retired chief secretary, Alemtemshi Jamir on the concluding day of the Mokokchung District Art & Culture Council (MDACC) silver jubilee celebration, held at Cosmos Entertainment Hall on Saturday.
Alemtemshi said that the advancing technology may lead to new emergence of culture, to some which will be frightening, but he was optimistic that the goodness in men brought by the present art and culture will sustain.
He lauded the members of the MDACC, past and present, for bringing about new formats and creative initiatives, influencing the state of Nagaland and beyond.
Alemtemshi urged the members to put in some thinking process for a brighter future. He also hinted MDACC to host a ‘Book or a Literary Festival’, in the near future.
In his presidential address, deputy commissioner, Murohu Chotso described MDACC as a renowned apex organization in the state, in the field of maintaining and preserving art and culture. He thanked the founding members, led by Alemtemshi and all those who have been and a part and parcel of the Council. ‘A Discourse on Art & Culture’ was moderated by Er. Moa Aier with the panelists- Alemtemshi Jamir, Murohu Chotso and Prof. Sangyu Yaden, president Ao Senden. A short musical play, titled ‘A Time to Laugh & A Time to Weep’, originally staged during the 40th ACYE Convention 1985 at Mokokchung, originally scripted by Bendang Lemtur, Dr. Chubatola and D Bhatta with producers Alemtemshi Jamir and M Bendangnukshi Longkumer was re-enacted with cast members, such as Wabang Longkumer (N.O. 2012), Meyinungsang (N.O. 2013), Sharon Kiba (Kids for Fame 2013) and others.
Earlier, a solemn minute of silence was observed for the departed friends of MDACC and the MDACC souvenir and memento were released by Alemtemshi. ‘Thanks giving’ prayer was delivered by Rev. Ponen Longchar, pastor MTBA.
It may be noted that MDACC is a non-governmental organization established in 1987 and is the brain child of the then Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung Alemtemshi, IAS. It is a registered society with its main aims and objectives to direct activities that help promote social, cultural and intellectual life of its members and the public in general. To achieve these ends, the Council arranges dramas, social and cultural events, music and literary activities, etc. from a humble beginning of organizing Miss Mokokchung, Inter-School drama, quiz, painting and solo competitions and organizing Moatsu and Tsungremmong festivals, it has been organizing the M-Fest & Naga Idol, re-christened as Naga Orpheus from 2011.
