Pathetic condition along the road stretch of NH-29 near Customs Office, Kohima, has posed not only traffic hazard but health hazard too as water in the crater-like potholes have remained stagnated for a long time since the onset of monsoon.
Sources said that a meeting was held with the BRTF, State Roads & Bridges department and the district administration over the constant negligence of BRTF in this sector and accordingly, the BRTF was asked to act at the earliest.
However, till date no action has been taken. Due to non-existence of side drains resulting in water-logging, the entire stretch has been damaged with knee-deep water accumulating in some stretches.
Besides heavy local traffic, the traffic volume has been compounded as Imphal-bound heavy and light vehicles ply this road daily, day and night.
Chances of accidents are high near the Customs Office stretch as there was a critical blind curve. Though officers and technical field staff of the BRTF cross this road stretch daily, yet they seemed to have turned a blind eye to the glaring deplorable road condition.
