Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) has clarified its priority, its source of funding, revulsion to factionalism and fight against unabated taxation during an interaction with students of Nagaland University, Lumami Campus, on June 23.
The interaction on June 23 coincided with the 17th Varsity Campus Parting Social cum ACAUT seminar where Khekiye Sema, Retd. IAS and member of ACAUT Consultative Body, was the chief guest. The interaction was held on the theme “Aurora Spei” at I Ihoshe Kinimi Hall chaired Ms. Chijanbeni Kithan.
“Irish Christian brothers of St. Edmunds College, Shillong, taught Character which cannot be found in books and inquisitive minds should be encouraged. Intelligent minds are the ones who are inquisitive. We lose all our chances to absorb knowledge because of sticking out with our own crowd; for instance, a student should learn about another tribe because when a student is trying to do so he is being a Naga. We should all go beyond our own tribe,” said Khekiye K Sema in his speech.
In the ensuing interactive session, students fielded questions to the ACAUT members which were promptly clarified. One student questioned ‘Why is ACAUT taking up the issue of unabated taxation and corruption when it is the job of apex organizations such as Naga Hoho and NSF to do so?” to which ACAUT replied that those apex organizations have their own priorities and inclinations. One student questioned the source of ACAUT’s income to which ACAUT replied that ACUAT is self funded where most of the members being businessmen and entrepreneurs. It was also explained that the movement was being sustained through donations from well wishers.
Again another student said ACAUT should tone down on the language used against NPGs because freedom movement still holds dear to many hearts to which ACAUT replied that it is not against the freedom movement but is only against factionalism and unabated taxation. Some students advised that ACAUT should stick to its earlier stance of ‘One government, One tax’ and not dwell into many issues. K Kinimi, chief landowner of Lumami campus, has conveyed to ACAUT that the Vice Chancellor, NU, was not taking critical decisions for developmental activities in the campus. He remarked that “Stagnancy is happening because decisions are not taken and sanctions for development are objected to.”
Lumami campus is a model of tribal harmony and Kinimi echoed that the Naga unity of old must be brought back. Media Cell, ACAUT Nagaland has stated this in a press release.
