WDLSA team visits sub-jail Wokha

Wokha district legal services authority (WDLSA) team visited sub- jail, Wokha July 18 and held interaction session.
The team met the director general of prison and home guards Lungria Ding, IPS, and prison officials.
At the interaction session, DG presented briefing pertaining to the jail.
The team was comprised of chairman-cum-district and sessions judge, Wokha, Hukato Swu and panel advocates including Limhathung, Yanbemo, Zuchumpeni and Athunglo.
Highlighting the need of mental and lunatic Asylum, the district and sessions judge said it has been one of the most serious administrative problems faced by both the jail and judicial services.
Various issues relating to the prisoners’ rights, Furlough/leave and parole, right of the prisoners, right to healthy, hygienic and clean environment, timely medical treatment and illegal detention were discussed.
Full cooperation was extended by the jail authorities to team and full access was provided for the said visit.
In a related programme, an awareness seminar on legal rights of the prisoners and an interaction session were held with the jail inmates, where panel advocates interviewed on their grievances and asked whether legal assistance/aid were required by them.
WDLSA also conducted legal awareness seminar July 16 at government higher secondary school, Wokha.
Various topics on Right to education, juvenile justice Act, cyber crime, anti-tobacco laws, domestic violence Act etc. were discussed.
D&Ss Judge, Wokha Hukato Swu, civil judge Wokha Phuleto Yeptho, panel advocates Limhathung, Zuchumpeni, Yanbemo and Athunglo were the resource persons. Seminar was followed by quiz competition for the students.
