Consultative committee member, Food Corporation of India (FCI), Nagaland, H. Kisheto Chishi Wednesday highlighted various central schemes (Public Distribution System) under BPL, APL, AAY and others allocated to the state.
He said there was a need to create awareness among the public about various schemes by the ministry, and its allocation to the state.
During the press conference held at Hotel Saramati, Chishi tabled a statistical report. He highlighted that total allocation by the central government to Nagaland as per the welfare scheme for the entire districts were 21590 quintals of rice per month for the BPL, APL (rice) 43830 quintals, and AAY (rice) 13380 quintals per month.
FCI consultative committee member said 4036.20 quintals of rice have been sanctioned under Annapurna by the state government free of cost since October-March 2013-14. The rice is to be distributed to the aged above 65 years provided they were registered through the schemes.
Chishi also disclosed that for the welfare institutions and hostels, the government had been providing 1040 quintals of rice and 446 quintals of wheat for the six months.
Though there were discrepancies in different government departments, as instructed and directed by the central ministry concerned, the committee would check all the godowns including the Fair Price Shop (FPS). The committee said it would entertain public complaints in order to find out whether the public were satisfied with the quality of the distribution.
The first phase of the inspection is underway in Dimapur in collaboration with the department of Food and Civil Supply. The member of the consultative committee Tangit Imsong has appealed to the public and the beneficiaries that if any complaint in the quality or malpractices in the distributions, they could bring forth the matter so it could be sent to the central ministry.
