AFSPA still in operation even after CF

A dialogue organized to discuss human rights violations has expressed dismay with the prolonged imposition of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) in the Northeast in general and Nagaland in particular.
On Thursday, North Eastern Dialogue Forum (NEDF), Nagaland Chapter and Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre held a discussion on 56th year of AFSPA in Nagaland at Dongphi Chokae Okho (DCO) conference hall near DC court junction, Dimapur.
The discussion also felt that despite the signing of cease-fire agreement between the government of India and various Naga Political Groups (NPGs), the Act continues to be enforced in the state.
Speaking on the occasion, principal of City Law College, Dimapur Leonard Aier gave a detailed overview of the past and present instances of human rights violation under AFSPA.
After the discussion, the organizers said the participants especially the students expressed their eagerness to learn more about the Act under which human rights had been violated.
The meeting also decided to further hold more discussions so as to spread awareness about the impact of the draconian law.
